Information Literacy Librarian
The University of Minnesota's recent strategic positioning process identified important trends and institutional priorities for excellence. The process has resulted in campus-wide Undergraduate Student Learning Outcomes and a strengthened first-year writing program, both of which have a strong information literacy component, providing unique opportunities for developing a campus-wide, integrated information literacy program.
The newly formed Coordinated Educational Services (CES) Department is part of the Libraries' Academic Programs Division. CES was created to provide leadership for development and coordination in several areas that span the division including information literacy, learning spaces, digital reference, online tools, and multicultural outreach.
The Libraries are seeking an innovative, energetic, and collaborative librarian to join this new department. The Information Literacy Librarian will coordinate programmatic efforts to integrate information literacy and research skills throughout the university curriculum. The successful candidate will be expected to forge new relationships and create new initiatives that respond to trends in teaching and learning. S/he will work closely with the University Libraries' Digital Library Development Lab to create innovative tools and services as part of a broad information literacy program. The librarian will also contribute to the profession as s/he works toward continuous appointment. The position reports to the Director of Coordinated Educational Services. The University Libraries particularly encourages the candidacy of people with experience in multicultural and multiracial settings.
Core Responsbilities:- Seek opportunities and develop partnerships that connect the Libraries' efforts to campus programs and initiatives in areas of learning, teaching, and curriculum development
- Provide Libraries' staff with consultation, training and assistance in instructional design, development of discipline-based information literacy programs, application of instructional technologies, and assessment
- Lead the on-going creation and maintenance of e-learning modules
- Work with the Libraries' Staff Education and Development office and the campus Center for Teaching and Learning to develop educational programs for librarians
- Serve as liaison to the newly created Department of Writing Studies and a newly developing university-wide Honors Program
- Analyze trends in the scholarship of teaching and learning to inform innovative program development
- Provide leadership for and contribute to CES visioning, goal setting, services and projects
- Provide leadership for and contribute to library-wide projects.
- Contribute to the knowledge base of the profession through research, publication, and professional engagement.

QUALIFICATIONS. Required: Masters' degree from an ALA accredited library school or an advanced degree with relevant experience; demonstrated teaching ability; knowledge of information literacy concepts and issues; knowledge of learning theories and a range of pedagogies; familiarity with trends in higher education related to teaching and learning; knowledge of instructional design, curriculum mapping and instructional technologies; excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills; demonstrated creativity, initiative and self-direction; ability to respond effectively to changing needs and priorities; ability to work both independently and in cooperation with colleagues and library users in a service-oriented, collaborative environment.
Preferred: Experience developing information literacy programs and/or librarian training in information literacy; experience developing working partnerships with campus staff and other campus communities; experience in integrating new technologies into the delivery of information services; demonstrated involvement in professional activities; project management expertise.
SALARY AND BENEFITS: This is full-time, 12-month, continuous-appointment track, academic/professional positions at Assistant or Associate Librarian rank, depending on qualifications.
